2023 is in the rearview mirror and today we're taking this moment to reflect on another year passed.
Here's what went down at Nixon in 2023.
Recapping the Rad at Nixon 2023
JANUARY
51-30 Chrono Friday the 13th V1
If you have paid attention over the years, you know we here at Nixon like to display our watches with the date window set to Friday the 13th.
Why? Well... why not?
The same reason goes for the two super limited versions of our coveted 51-30 Chrono that we dropped this year. So next time that superstitious day rolls around, you might want to keep your eyes peeled for a special drop around the 13:00th hour...
The Mullet
The ultra-thin analog watch that has an elevated appeal, with a fast feel. The Mullet is brand new to the Nixon lineup. It was designed to have that classy look regardless if you were headed to the office, or paddling out to the line up. Everywhere you want to go, this watch will have you looking good.
FEBRUARY
Santa Cruz x Nixon
Santa Cruz Skateboards has become synonymous with skateboarding itself. They are OGs who stay on the edge with iconic artwork and a squad of legendary riders.
In celebration of Santa Cruz’s 50th anniversary, we partnered up to bring you special, limited-edition watches based on classic graphics like Screaming Hands, luminescent Roskopp dials and much more.
DEW Tour Trophy Watches
Earlier this year, we partnered up with the coveted contest series, DEW Tour to bring unique trophy watches to the first place winners for each division. But it didn't stop there...
You may want to give the live stream a re-watch to see what Nixon easter eggs were hidden in the broadcast set. Can you spot them all?
Zach Miller Interview
Earlier than the year, we caught up with long time Nixon team rider, Zach Miller, to hear about everything he has cooking up in his world. Zach eats, breathes, and bleeds creative style on land, sea, and on both sides of the lens.
Hit the Zach Miller interview link to read all about his projects, including his surf company ZM Shapes.
MARCH
PHX AM Trophy Watches and Video
Each year, Cowtown Skateboards in Phoenix, Arizona throws one of the biggest amateur skateboard contests in the world known as the Phoenix AM. This year, we brought a group of skateboarders out to the desert for the weekend to rip the contest.
Our roster was stacked this year, and our very own, Lazer Crawford, took home the win which included a custom Nixon Mullet trophy watch!
Check out the re-cap video to see all the radness that went down.
APRIL
SeaTrees Earth Month Partnership
During Earth Month this past April, we partnered with SeaTrees once again. For every purchase of a Nixon sustainable product, we donated to kelp forest restoration research.
Why do we support this initiative? Coastal kelp forests provide habitats and food for hundreds of marine species. Kelp also sequesters C02 from the atmosphere, which helps counteract climate change.
Hannah Eddy Collection
The artwork of Hannah Eddy makes you feel good and think twice. Her style is easily recognizable. It combines vibrant colors with her love for the outdoors, including surf, skate and snow.
We had Hannah Eddy come into our Nixon headquarters in Carlsbad, CA to create a mural for us. Then, we gave her art new canvases, the Nixon Time Teller OPP.
Shop the Nixon Time Teller OPP x Hannah Eddy collection.
Hannah Eddy at Woodward
On Sunday April 16th, we headed up to Woodward Tahoe to celebrate the launch of the Hannah Eddy x Nixon collection. Why did we go to Woodward? Well, it’s not only one of Hannah’s local mountains, but we also did a special Hannah Eddy Time Teller OPP in collaboration with Woodward.
Hannah made a custom paint-by-numbers mural, implementing the designs that are on her four Time Teller OPPs. 30 lucky participants were able to paint portions of the mural with Hannah herself. Once the mural was finished, it was cut into 4 equal pieces, which will be displayed at Woodward locations across the country.
SLUSH Game of S.N.O.W.
In April of this year, we were a proud sponsor of the 3rd annual SLUSH Game of S.N.O.W. This year, it took place at Bear Mountain in Big Bear, California on a custom built rail jam course where 16 of snowboarding's heaviest riders threw down in a bracket style format for the title.
But, Nixon wasn't there for the first place finisher, we were there to provide the "Best Time Award". This went to the man and woman who literally had the best time at the event. We're all about being there for a good time!
MAY
Bang Slalom Trophy Watches
Nixon's favorite Viking, Mikkel Bang, has done it again! The 5th annual Bang Slalom went down in Hemsedal, Norway on Saturday April 29th and was an absolute success.
This year, and for the first time ever, the Bang Slalom was a stop on the Burton Mystery Series and attendance was through the roof. Mikkel took 2nd place in the Men’s Pro category, while Norway’s very own Brage Richenberg claimed 1st place and went home with a custom engraved Nixon Sentry watch.
JUNE
Time Teller Solar
Earlier this year, one of our all-time favorite Nixon watches went full solar! In 2023 we introduced the Time Teller Solar to pay homage to the silhouettes of classic watches... but with a solar movement twist.
Raised indices and custom molded hands give the dial a distinct look. A stainless steel case, hardened mineral crystal and fixed bezel bring it all together. Embrace the power of the sun with the Time Teller Solar.
SLUSH World Quarters
June isn't a month you typically imagine for a snowboarding contest to be held. But luckily for the 2023 season, Mammoth Mountain was able to hold SLUSH magazine's "World Quarters" during the summer.
No, this isn't some typical quarter final snowboard contest, it's a winner take all showdown on a gigantic quarter pipe. In classic Nixon fashion, we sponsored the event by presenting the "Best Time Award" on a custom engraved gold 51-30 Chrono.
JULY
"25 Years of Time" Documentary
To capture the essence of Nixon's first 25 years, we partnered with acclaimed filmmaker Patrick O'Dell, who dove deep into the fascinating stories and characters that have shaped our success.
Back in 1998, Nixon shipped its very first watch. Since then, our brand has evolved into a powerhouse, attracting legendary athletes, musicians, and artists such as Caity Simmers, Mike Diamond, Todd Richards, Nora Vasconcellos, Paul Rodriguez, and even Metallica, as part of our lineage. This fusion of talent has cemented Nixon's unique identity - a culture that stands out proudly today: team designed - custom built.
AUGUST
The Player Re-Issue
Introduced in 2002 and turning heads ever since, the Player is good-looking, but never flashy with a two-tone finish and legit diamond. The three hand Japanese quartz movement and clean dial design mean it's all business AND pleasure.
This was a limited edition piece, so if you didn't get it, you may have to wait another 25 years, player!
US Open of Surfing Watches
The annual US Open of Surfing in Huntington Beach, CA is widely known as the world's largest and most exciting surfing event. From rising star groms to full-fledged Olympians, surfers from all over the world head to Surf City, USA to battle it out for their chance at the podium.
To commemorate this year's event, we made custom engraved US Open casebacks for our eco-friendly Time Teller OPP and our iconic 51-30 Chrono.
The Disk
In August 2023, we released The Disk, bringing functional simplicity and bold color options to our lineup of digital watches. Neither circle nor square, the Disk brings essential digital watch features in an extremely thin profile.
SEPTEMBER
Caity Simmers Wins Rookie of the Year
This past September, 17 year old Caity Simmers won Rookie of the Year and finished 4th in the world in her rookie season on the WSL Championship tour. After turning down her spot last year to focus on free surfing and film projects, Caity qualified yet again and held strong throughout the year with two 1st place finishes in Brazil and Portugal earlier in the season, followed by a 4th place finish at the Rip Curl World Surf League Finals at Lower Trestles in Southern California.
Congrats on an epic year Caity! We are so proud to have you as part of the Nixon team.
"Bell Jar" Video by Caity Simmers
"Bell Jar" is a collection of clips from everywhere. The 10-minute edit features Nixon athlete Caity Simmers not only as a team rider, but also as a film editor. Talk about multi-talented!
Nixon EU Welcomes Cata Diaz
Holding it down in Spain, this Chilean born skateboarder has carved her own path in the industry. Style, dedication and fun are three words we would use to describe Cata’s skating, but don’t just take our word for it, head over to her page to see for yourselves.
OCTOBER
2PAC Collection
In October of this year, we launched our collaboration line with hip-hop legend, 2PAC. This series of 5 limited edition watches draws inspiration from the legendary artist and his poetry with unique designs on the Time Teller, Sentry, Corporal and 51-30 Chrono.
51-30 Chrono Friday the 13th V2
In October, we brought the Friday the 13th 51-30 Chrono back to the lineup. This time, in gold.
The Nine Club Player
The Player has been holding it down since the day it hit the streets. In October, Nixon and The Nine Club (the show that has skaters talking) collaborated to bring you the Limited Edition The Nine Club Player.
Attractive but not too loud, this special edition watch featured a super black IP finish and diamond moved to 9 o’clock to finish off the look.
Mullet Stainless Steel
The same great ultra-thin analog we released in January of this year, but now with 100% of that elevated feel. Don't worry though, each Mullet Stainless Steel is built with our quick-release technology so you can switch between bands in a matter of seconds.
NOVEMBER
Liquid Death - Death Clock III
The Death Clock III is the third collaboration time piece we have done with our friends over at Liquid Death. This time we brought it back to the Time Teller (same model as the first Death Clock) and murdered out the case and band to make those gold and bloodied battle axe hands really pop.
DECEMBER
The Ripper
The Ripper is the newest digital watch to add to your Nixon collection. Crafted with an ultra-comfortable quick release locking silicone band that is unlike anything else we have in our assortment. All while keeping the smaller wrists in mind.
